Q: Why did you join Women in Digital?
A: For a long time, I have been looking for a group of like-minded digital communicators and strategists to exchange best practices, tips, and information on digital tools and resources. I was trying to figure out how to create such an environment when I found Women In Digital. So it was an easy thing to do.
Q: What’s your specialty? What makes you tick?
A: I am not sure if I have just one specialty. I love strategy, outreach, and engagement.
Q: What was your first job out of college?
A: I was a Field Organizer for the Southern Relief Fund to help find and relocate displaced residents of Biloxi, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina.
Q: What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
A: Don’t be afraid to use your voice to make yourself heard.
Q: What can you give your fellow members of Women in Digital?
A: I believe one of the best things I can give my fellow WID members is the encouragement. Women in this field are often overlooked and unappreciated, but I want them to know they are important and the work we do is critical to our varying audiences.
Q: What will be your first ask?
A: My first ask is to take a moment everyday to engage and empower each other. You never know who needs a pick me up from an understanding member.
Q: What does digital mean to you?
A: Digital means “the world to me”. It gives me the ability to live my dreams out loud with loved ones watching from thousands of miles away. It gives me the ability to be a part of movements and actions that I otherwise would only get to be able to watch from afar. Digital means participation and action in events that affect my life and those of my loved ones.
Q: What do you think is the greatest challenge facing women today?
A: The greatest challenge facing women today in digital is ensuring we are ensuring digital is a part of meaningful planning conversations on how communicate to the public. It is important to be in the room to ensure how the public receive the information is understood and taken seriously.
Q: What do you think we can do to overcome that challenge?
A: We can overcome this challenge by asking our colleagues to be intentional in their understanding of how digital works and ask for recommendations from the experts.
Q: Why do you love digital?
A: I love digital because it is a lot like my personality – outgoing, purposeful and innovative.
